Flora :

Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo) and Toot or mulberry (Marus maraceae) is the common and indigenous trees here. It is found scattered and also in clamps. The Kikar (Acacia arbica), Beri (Zizyphus Jajaba) and a tree known locally as Kabal, are common in the plain portion of the district. Phulahi (Acacia modesta) Palosa in Pushto and Kao or wild olive or Showan (in Pushto) especially are common trees in hilly areas. The Shisham gets height up to 30 feet. Eucalyptus forests are being grown at large scale in the district.

Fauna:

Nature has also bestowed the distt with the wealth of wild life. Both local and migratory birds are found here. Local birds includes white, black and red-legged partridges etc. Migratory birds are Crane, heron, bustard (Tillor) falcon and different types of duck including wild duck, common tail, pochard, shell duck, bar head gooses, gray leg goose and pelican etc start visit in mid September pass through the area till end of the winter season and move to upper Punjab and India. From mid March these birds return towards Siberia (Russia) where they take genocide or breeding. Malugul Dhand , near Serai Naurang was once a protected Ramsar Wetland, a breeding spot for migratory birds coming from Siberia through Afghanistan. This bird sanctuary was devastated both by nature and and men, therefore, it was de-listed from Ramsar list. Former Chief Minister NWFP included this site in the Annual Development Programme in 1999 for re-habilitation, as Lakki Safari Park, but lateron it was shelved.
